Backend Engineer

The role

Lead engineer for the development of a robust, scalable backend and a mobile app for the platform.

What you'd own

• The backend. The API, the data model, and the pipeline that turns a day of uploads into a film, running on AWS.
• Our mobile app is Expo and React Native against a Kotlin and Spring Boot API.

The stack is flexible for the right backend engineer. A strong backend, and the right person to build it, matters more than staying in the current language.

Required experience

• Has built an enterprise-level backend, or worked on an enterprise-level backend team.
• Has built a functional app before and can show it.
• AWS and cloud computing experience.
• Ideally end-to-end MLOps experience. You will be handling LLM API integration at scale, which is genuinely hard to do well.
• Experience with big datasets, ideally adjacent to high-volume image or video processing and production.

Preferred qualifications

• Ideal candidate takes initiative, plans ahead, is comfortable owning a large project, works quickly, is self-directed, and brings their own vision they can execute on.
• Ideally also familiar with Kotlin and Spring Boot.
